ASHBY IVANHOE 3-1 FC DYNAMO
LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
TUESDAY 23RD AUGUST 2011

Ashby Ivanhoe moved into fourth place in the early season table after goals from Elliot Bott, Jack Willars and a Phil Gibson penalty gave them their first win of the season, a comfortable 3-1 victory over FC Dynamo.

The visitors had finished runners-up last season but were much changed from then and despite Ashby making the brighter start they had the first chance at goal with just five minutes on the clock when a shot from the edge of the area beat John Noon but struck the outside of the post and away to safety.

Ashby then started to control the game and with the majority of play inside the Dynamo half chances were being created and the home side went close to scoring twice inside the opening 15 minutes, firstly when Luke Thorogood went past a couple of defenders before shooting wide of the near post and then the next chance saw a fine cross from the left touchline from Ben Earp find Gibson inside the area but the keeper was equal to his header.

With Ashby well on top they fully deserved the first goal when it came in the 17th minute and it was a well worked goal as the ball was passed forward and from the goal-line Earp pulled the ball back for Bott who had made a run into the area and he struck the ball from six yards past the keeper into the roof of the net for 1-0.

Although Ashby remained the better side throughout the remainder of the half the chances dried up until five minutes before the interval when the visitors did have a couple of half chances which came to nothing before Ashby had a great chance on the stroke of half time when Chris Nettel held off a defender before sending his shot narrowly wide to end the first half with the home side in front.

The second half started well for Ashby as they looked to add a second goal and in the 51st minute they were given the opportunity when Gibson was brought down inside the area and he picked himself up to take the kick himself and he made no mistake to double the advantage as the kick was into the bottom corner out of the keeper’s reach.

Ashby continued to create the chances and before the hour mark they should have added a third goal with a couple more good chances when a dipping shot from Chris Nettel 25 yards from goal left the keeper with no chance but the ball struck the crossbar and then from a throw-in which John Smith sent deep into the area Gibson lost his marker for a free header which went wide.

In the 86th minute Ashby made the game safe with the third goal when a free kick was played towards the back post by Thorogood where Gibson was there to send a shot back across goal which the keeper managed to save but he could only parry the ball into the path of substitute Jack Willars who made no mistake from close range.

When it looked as if Ashby were going to keep a rare clean sheet they fell asleep from the restart and the last goal went to the visitors who pulled a goal back when the player easily made his way through the Ivanhoe defence before slotting the ball beyond Noon to make the final score 3-1.
