ASHBY IVANHOE U18s 1-3 HOLWELL SPORTS U18s
LEICESTERSHIRE MIDWEEK FLOODLIT YOUTH LEAGUE NORTH DIVISION
WEDNESDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2011
Ashby Ivanhoe Under 18s fell to a second successive home defeat as Holwell Sports Under 18s capitalised on a below par performance to run out 3-1 winners.
The first half had very few chances but it was the visitors who were playing the better and were in the Ashby half for the majority of the first 45 and just before the half hour they almost took the lead when a sliced clearance made its way past the keeper who managed to track back before sliding in and making a goal-line clearance.
Ten minutes before the break and Holwell did make the breakthrough when a ball over the top of the defence found the player in the clear and after advancing forward the shot was slotted past the keeper to make it 1-0 and it remained that way for the remainder of the first half.
Into the second half and Ashby were given a great chance for an equaliser when they were awarded a penalty and current top scorer Ashley Poyser stepped up to fire home the penalty low and just past the keeper for his fifth goal of the season.
The scores weren’t level for long though and in the 63rd minute Holwell retook the lead when a ball down the right was crossed in low and after the keeper had missed the ball the shot at the back post was slotted home for 2-1.
Holwell soon extended their lead just three minutes later when a corner was swung into the area and after a header was cleared off the line the rebound was forced home and with Ashby never looked like getting back into the match it ended 3-1.
