ASHBY IVANHOE RESERVES 1-3 LOUGHBOROUGH FC
LEICESTERSHIRE SATURDAY SHIELD FIRST ROUND
SATURDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2011

Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves saw their Leicestershire Saturday Shield hopes end at the first round stage as visitors Loughborough FC recovered from going 1-0 down early on before emerging as 3-1 victors.

The home side started the match the better side and with the first chance of the match in the seventh minute they opened the scoring when a corner was played into the area and Ben Earp headed the ball down and Gaz Nettel was there to force the ball home.

Loughborough responded well to falling behind and just three minutes later they scored with their first chance when the ball was worked forward and with Ashby unable to win the ball a shot from inside the area brought out a save from Sam Deacon but the loose ball was put away to level the scores.

After the bright start the match was then played mostly in the centre of the pitch with limited chances for either side and it took until six minutes before half time before Loughborough went closest to the next goal when a player burst forward but with just the keeper to beat Deacon produced a good save with his foot to keep the score level.

It didn’t take long before the next chance when just a minute later the visitors took the lead for the first time from a corner which found the player inside the area and the header found the top corner to give Loughborough a 2-1 half time lead.

The second half didn’t get off to the best of starts for Ashby when they fell further behind just two minutes in when a cross into the area made its way over the Ivanhoe defender and the header found the net for 3-1.

Loughborough continued to create the chances and in the 55th minute they nearly made it four but Deacon produced a good diving save low to his right to tip a shot around the post.

Although Ashby did have a couple of chances in the final stages of the match they didn’t look like getting back into the match and it was Loughborough who progressed into the next round.
