ASHBY IVANHOE 5-0 SAFFRON DYNAMO
LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2011
Ashby Ivanhoe completely dominated their Leicestershire Senior League clash with struggling Saffron Dynamo and ran out comfortable 5-0 winners with Phil Gibson grabbing a hat-trick and further strikes from Mitch Jordan and Luke Thorogood.
From the first whistle Ashby were on the front foot and in the opening twenty-five minutes they played some good passing football but they just couldn’t find the breakthrough with the best chance coming from Mitch Jordan when he got onto the end of Dan Stevenson’s through ball before seeing his shot turned round the post.
Two minutes later and Ashby had the ball in the net for the second time when a free kick was played deep into the area and Gibson was there again to head the ball just inside the far post but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Ashby did double their advantage six minutes before half time when good work from Gibson saw Jordan receive the ball and he placed his shot from the edge of the area past the outstretched keeper and into the top corner to make it 2-0 at the break.
The second half saw Ashby continue they dominance and just after the hour mark they added a third goal when a corner from Jordan found Stevenson at the back post and his header back into the crowded six yard box was turned in by Luke Thorogood.
Ashby then made it 4-0 in the 71st minute when Gibson got his second of the match when he received the ball before turning inside and from a central position to goal his shot from 20 yards had too much power for the goalkeeper and the ball found the net.
After a couple of substitutions Ashby went close to number five and it was nearly a second goal for Thorogood when he tried a powerful effort from outside the area which looked destined for the net but the keeper pulled off a fine save to tip the ball over.
The fifth goal wasn’t far away and twelve minutes from time Gibson completed his hat-trick when a long ball forward was over the Saffron defence and Gibson was there to pick up the ball and place it over the keeper to complete the scoring and after a good run of results of late Kev Allsop’s team have moved into the top six in the table.
